vegetarian worcestershire sauce
Need to add YUM factor (flavor) to beans/legumes.?

I’m trying to integrate more basic foods into my menu. I am a very experienced cook with most foods. I am however having trouble with dietary restrictions of one family member. I am not good with flavoring beans. Beans seem to be very dull and plain to some of my picky eaters. I need to find ways to make beans/legumes tastier.

So far I have used the following ingredients to varying degrees.

onion, garlic
Worcestershire sauce
soy sauce
hot sauce
herbs
liquid smoke
diced tomatoes

* I need to reduce sodium so even low sodium soy sauce or sea salt is a problem.
* Anything hot or spicy must be added after due to one sensitive tummy.
* Low fat so no ham hock or anything of that nature. Vegetarian or carnivore ideas both okay. (please spare me the lecture)

I’m really limited here with what I can use to make beans more exciting and enjoyable to some very finicky people. Any help is sincerely appreciated.

I don’t eat pigs so have you ever tried turkey bacon? That’s pretty good. But it may be too much salt. Black beans are very good with rice. Maybe Cuban style? Add some rice cooked with low-sodium chicken broth, onions, bell peppers, garlic, oregano, cilantro and a squeeze of lime. Yum.
