Vegetarian going to take Fish Oil Supplements?
Hi I’ve been a vegetarian for 2.5 yrs now and at my last visit to the Dr. he recommended that I start taking fish oil supplements for both acne and heart health. At first I refused but after doing research on where else to get EPA and DHA I realize that I will have to go to fish oil. (Do not try and play the flax oil or seed card, I’ve done my research I know that it only contains ALA which barely gets converted if at all in the body, and all the algae supplements only have DHA not EPA). My only question is how do I begin a fish oil regiment after not consuming any animal flesh for 2.5 years? Will there be GI problems such as vomiting and diarrhea? How can I avoid these? (I’m planning on taking a 1000mg supplement so idk maybe I could take it once a day at first or something, but will even this shock my “system”?) Thanks!
Again, no flax/algae/evening primrose/borage alternatives, these do not offer the same nutrients as fish oil, get over it.
well if it’s your only option go for it. i’m a vegetarian and have wondered the same thing. if the doc says to you should probably do as he says but start slowly and add to the dosage gradually so, like you said, you won’t shock your body
